Abstract
PURPOSE: This is a quasi-experimental study with nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design aimed to investigate the effects of the advanced practice nurse-led psychoeducational program on distress, anxiety, depression, coping with cancer, health promotion behavior and quality of life in colorectal cancer survivors.

METHODS: The subjects were colon cancer survivors who underwent follow-up care at C University S Hospital. The survivors are 39 and consisted of the 19 of an experimental group and the 20 of a control group. The experimental group performed a psychoeducational program for 120 minutes per session, once a week during a total of six weeks, and the control group got routine education and counseling. Distress, anxiety, depression, coping with cancer, health promotion behavior and the quality of life in the subjects were investigated before and immediately after the intervention and 4 weeks after the intervention. The data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN ver.24.0, using repeated measures ANOVA.

RESULTS: There were significant differences in distress, anxiety, coping with cancer and quality of life between the two groups. However, there were no significant differences in depression and health promotion behavior.

CONCLUSION: These results confirmed that the psychoeducational program for colorectal cancer survivors had positive effects on reducing distress and anxiety. Also the program improves the coping with cancer and quality of life in colorectal cancer survivors.
